Our role is to support the council’s digital ambitions and lead on the change towards designing user-centred services. The Service Design team is part of the Corporate Development function at Essex County Council.
We’re a centre of excellence for service design, user research, content design and data. We work closely with teams across the council to improve the online experience for their service users, build or configure new platforms and create new digital services.
Our work always starts with user needs, and we work in agile ways to do regular user research and respond to user feedback. It’s our job to help others make sense of emerging digital opportunities, and we lead on the application of Service Standards which guide us in everything we do.
We are inspired by the work of the Government Digital Service, and are adapting many of the best practices that they have established for our local needs. Like our colleagues in central government we also believe in working in the open, because making things open makes them better.
