Weeknotes 30 September-4 October

So, it’s October (no, we can’t believe it either). The weeks keep coming, but we’re saying some fond farewells.

Content

Hannah’s been redesigning the services we sell section of the website, as well as pencilling in some kick off meetings with stakeholders.

Caroline A’s been tinkering with our Cludo site search tool. She’s drafted some more planning content, revisiting the user need to give people the right balance of technical information without sacrificing clarity.

Along with Hannah, Ed, Helen and Martin, I took part in the kick off meeting for our forms project. This comes under our wider work on accessibility for online services, but will also look at general best practice and user experience too. With more people now expecting to complete tasks easily online, being in good forms is essential.

Service patterns

Bhupinder, Ben and Georgiana have been working on the ‘book something’ service pattern, refining insights into the current online booking journeys. They’ve been thinking about ‘how might we’ statements that will form part of ideation with the wider team.

The team have also been looking at these booking journeys with analysts from Tech Services.

Along with Jenny and Ale from FutureGov, the team brought this phase of work to an end, spending some time reflecting on the patterns work we’ve completed so far and thinking about what we’ve learned.

Financial assessments

We kicked off a future state review of our adult social care financial assessments service. We’re working with teams from across adult social care, Finance, Tech Services and Service Design to deliver this work before Christmas, so it’s pretty fast-moving.

It’s a notoriously tricky area, and we’ll all have lots to learn from each other, but we’re optimistic we can really improve the user experience, while making the process easier for internal teams.

Team highlight

Having been instrumental to the delivery of essex.gov.uk, our content lead, Collette, is about to have a delivery of her own. The team leaned in to towers of pizza to send her on her way as she started her maternity leave this week.

Collette’s been at the heart of the team since the very beginning, and we’re all going to miss her guidance, good humour and gumption.

She can leave knowing the team is in really good hands. She, Nic, Helen and Vicki have been interviewing for a replacement content lead, as well as new user researchers and service designers to help us on the next step of our journey.

A team is just a few good people pulling in the same direction. They're what makes the difference in any organisation, and we know we've been really lucky.

All the best Collette!
