Weeknotes 10-14 June

This week we’ve been branching out from our list of go-live tasks for the launch of essex.gov.uk, and invested some time in thinking about testing, training and accessibility.

Caroline A’s been ploughing through the Planning, land and recycling section, with three sections receiving sign off. She’s also started work on some of the Energy, climate change and environment sections.

Hannah’s been deep in discovery for the Trading Standards section.

Caroline M’s been using SiteImprove to trawl for breaches of accessibility best practice across our web-estate. Often these are minor things, that are easy to fix, but make a massive difference to people using assistive technology on our sites.

Sheila and I have been pooling our experience to put together a new content design workshop for teams who create and manage content across the Council.

Sheila’s also been going through some education research with Helen, Magda and Georgiana, and identified some possible gaps. This cycle of research, iteration and review is central to our approach and making sure that content is the best it can be.

Team highlight

Today we’re hosting our friends in the north (and long-time collaborators), Stockport Council, to share what we’ve done, and chat about the mutual challenges we face.

This is obviously really handy coming as we're preparing to launch essex.gov.uk, but also underlines our total commitment to sharing, working in the open and collaborating for a long time to come.
